Tregothnan Single Estate Tea Loose Leaf Tin

£39.50

This truly special tea has a delicate balance and natural floral finish – an exquisite flavour practically perfect in every way.

DESCRIPTION

Tregothnan’s rare and special Single Estate tea is made purely from Camellia sinensis leaves from the Tregothnan estate in Cornwall. Light and delicate flavours of the most British tea in history are created far inland in the warm and wet climate on the banks of the deep sea creek of the Fal.

Many of the tea bushes now producing the finest teas made their way from China in the 1840’s via Darjeeling, finally reaching Tregothnan in 1999.  After six years of growth and development, Tregothnan were able to produce the first commercial tea grown on English soil in 2005. The environment at Tregothnan is home to much of the same flora growing in tea regions like Darjeeling.

Some tea aficionados taste muscatel notes and even Magnolia florals from the famous Magnolia campbellii in Tregothnan’s Single Estate tea. The UK’s first outdoor ornamental Camellias are vibrantly approaching their fourth century and grow all around these tea bushes, testament to the truly unique Tregothnan microclimate.

Infuse at 80ºc in filtered or naturally soft water. No milk or other additions required to taste, but the tea is adaptable to sweeteners such as honey. Re-infuse the leaves as many times as you choose, the record is 12 infusions, equating to 12 cups of tea from 3 grams.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

The Tregothnan Estate is responsible from bringing tea to Cornwall. Ornamental camellias have grown in abundance on the Tregothnan Estate for more than 200 years, making them the oldest outgrowing plants in the country. These tea bushes enjoy conditions free from salt winds and other hazards, mimicking conditions in renowned tea-producing regions such as Darjeeling in India.

Tregothnan’s camellia bushes are carefully tended by expert technicians in the plantations of the Estate. Tregothnan teas do not require large machinery to process the leaves, and the drying, chopping and sorting is all done by hand.

Tregothnan’s Black Single Estate Tea has been ranked at in the very top tier of tea in the world by Epicure in 2020.
