PRODUCT INFORMATION
ORIGINAL BEANS CHOCOLATE WITH CACAO FROM BENI AMAZON BOLIVIA
BENI AMAZON CACAO
The chocolate has a strong fruity and flowery aroma reminiscent of floral honey, apricots, and jasmine tea. The beans are in fact so small that they tend not to fit the normal cacao processing machinery. They weigh just around half of a normal cacao bean, and just like wild strawberries to those which have been cultivated, these beans pack a lot of flavour despite their diminutive size.
Beni Amazon, Bolivia
This region in the Southwestern Amazon basin is made up of savannah, rainforest and waterways, giving rise to almost 40 forest islands in an archipelago of ‘chocolateles’ – chocolate islands. Indigenous collectors have sustainably harvested this ultra-rare Beniano cacao, often only reachable by boat and endemic to the Bolivian Amazonas.
SUPPORTING LOCAL FARMERS & ECOLOGY
Since 2010, Beniano chocolate and its related conservation efforts provide indigenous people with additional income. Local production infrastructure and complex logistical operations have been built to bring this cacao out from the heart of the rainforest. The 100% wild cacao is helped to propagate by the last of the vivid blue-throated Macaw, who in turn are supported by conservation efforts.
