Meracinque's 100% Classic Carnaroli Rice is grown in Roncoferraro, Mantua (between The Veneto and Lombardy) on a strip of land in an area of Italy that has a unique, generous clay-loamy soil, that produces a full bodied, fragrant, flavoursome and strong grain recognised by some of the worlds top chefs.
Meracinque is not just the story of a crop, but also of a family, their land and the passion of five sisters to produce the best Carnaroli rice in Italy and to revolutionise local production methods. Meracinque is the only Micronatural® Carnaroli rice producer in the world, and the first to be using 'smart agriculture' biotechnologies developed in Japan. These techniques strengthen the rice plants immune system by using effective microorganisms and in doing so ensures there is no need for the use of any synthetic chemicals. Meracinque are leading a revolution that uses 'smart paddy’ techniques to grow and produce exceptional rice.
In order to achieve perfection and a substantial and sturdy grain, the rice crop is slowly nurtured, and allowed to grow and mature in the paddy over 12 months. This allows the rice to assimilate the most precious nutritional elements. Once harvested the rice is dried at low temperature to ensure that it remains 'whole' and does not turn 'doughy'. Committed to sustainable rice production Meracinque allow their paddys long rest cycles between each crop, giving the soil time to rebuild its nutrients.
